Featured Artist: Rhyannon Parry

Platform member Rhyannon Parry is showing her work at the BA(hons) Fine Art Painting exhibition at St Helens College from 15 - 24 May 2013.  Her work in the show concerns relationships to interior space:

‘Every corner in a house, every angle in a room, every inch of secluded space in which we like to hide, or withdraw into ourselves, is a symbol of solitude for the imagination; that is to say, it is the germ of a room, or of a house’. Gaston Bachellard

My narrative derives from my experiential encounters with interior space. Our identities are a part of our spaces left in traces, moments and memories; space may be viewed as an extension of the self. Through unveiling the traces and imperfections of my own living spaces, the intention is to allow the viewer to consider overlooked moments with space and share my perceptions of beauty. The focus on patterned and textural marks, has further allowed my work to engage and question my continuing relationship with interior space.

Featured Artist: Jacqui Priestley

Platform member Jacqui Priestley is showing her work at the BA(hons) Fine Art Painting exhibition at St Helens College from 15 - 24 May 2013.  Her work in the show concerns memory:

What is memory?

What are memories?

Memory is everything in life except for the thin line of The Present. Michael Gazzaniga.

My paintings are not representations of my memories but still they carry the memory of a moment, of many moments in ‘The Present’. They are the traces of moments, now past, when I took paint and made a mark on paper or canvas or board.

The paintings contrive to deliver a structural narrative that affords stillness and visual respite from our high speed digital age. They are quiet yet purposeful each layer of paint holds the trace of my presence. They are a combination of conscious and unconscious thoughts, planned and unplanned actions. They are intangible propositions given surface by paint.

Industrial Landscapes - Featured Artist week 8

Phil Wilkinson- Industrial Networks

Industrial Networks is an abstract expressionistic painting by Phil Wilkinson that explores a mixed cubist viewpoint that embraces architectural tectonics. The constructional design embraces aspects of prominent structures that are found in catherdrals, crematoriums and factories. Coupled with this, the tectonics features stained glass that is evident with colours associated with patina, rust and clay.

This work features in the current Industrial Landscapes exhibition at the Coffee Stop Cafe in St Mary’s Market.  Why not drop in, have a cuppa and a cake whilst taking in the pictures on display.

Industrial Landscapes
