Hélène Dougherty

I have always hovered between the figurative and non figurative in my work with influences from past and contemporary artists such as Turner, Whistler, Gerhard Richter’s Abstracts, John Virtues London Paintings, Anselm Kiefer, Peter Doig, to name a few.

I’m particularly drawn to the way in which changing light and the elements affect the landscape making it sometimes elusive and ethereal, where edges are lost and found. I try to depict this by allowing colours to drift in and out of each other and by applying texture where the painting asks.
